Children's knitted poncho

(0 products)

It's cozy to make knitted and crocheted children's clothing, but unfortunately, children grow quickly, which means the clothes quickly become too small. Handmade clothing takes many hours of work, and if you also feel it's disappointing when clothes become too small after a short time, you might consider making a knitted children's poncho.

Poncho with or without closed sides

A traditional poncho is more or less like a blanket that you can put on because it has a hole for the head. However, our patterns are more flattering, and we have tried to design several different versions of this classic garment.

When you look at our patterns for children's ponchos, you will first notice that there is a difference in whether the ponchos are closed at the sides, providing holes for the arms, or if it's just a traditional poncho with a hole for the head.

The primary advantage of choosing a poncho with closed sides is that the poncho has a better fit. On the other hand, children may outgrow this type of poncho more quickly compared to the traditional poncho. If you're considering making a poncho with closed sides, however, you shouldn't worry too much about it becoming too small. It can still be used for a longer time than, for example, a sweater, because it doesn't have sleeves that can become too short.

Choosing yarn for a poncho

A poncho is most suitable for use in the winter months, where it's nice to have a large and cozy poncho that you can easily pull over your blouse. Therefore, we primarily recommend wool or wool blends for our patterns, as wool is unparalleled in its ability to retain heat and is also breathable because it's organic.

One of Mayflower's most popular yarn qualities in pure wool is Mayflower Easy Care. This yarn quality is used in several of our patterns for knitted ponchos and is highly suitable for children. Mayflower Easy Care is made from 100% pure new wool of high quality, so the wool doesn't itch — even for those with sensitive skin.
