Mayflower Birmingham is a delicious, woolly tweed yarn, spun for Mayflower in Italy. The yarn has a classic tweed look with a twist, resulting in the most fascinating colors. Combined with the yarn's natural comfort, a brilliant blend has been created, which can quickly become a lovely new favorite yarn.

Mayflower Birmingham is primarily spun from soft, high-quality South American wool, added with alpaca and viscose, which together give the yarn a delicious, organic softness. The glossy, soft alpaca fibers come from the alpaca's coat. The animals mainly live in Peru, where the unique coat has developed to withstand the most extreme weather conditions in the highlands. The thin, fine fibers are hollow and thus insulating, which are sought-after properties in textiles. Wool and alpaca fibers are both classic elements in quality yarn, and together they provide a soft and naturally durable structure, which both provides comfort and looks fantastic in knitting as well as crocheting.

The yarn's beautiful color play is captivating. The lovely tweed flecks consist of viscose and are carefully matched with the yarn's shades. The fiber content absorbs color differently, providing color depth and the finest melange. The color chart is created with care so that the shades can easily be combined into beautiful stripes or fascinating fair-isle patterns, where the tweed flecks add an extra layer of color.

Birmingham is particularly excellent for sweaters, cardigans, shawls, interiors, etc. The yarn will also be fantastic together with a companion thread of, for example, Mayflower Super Kid Silk, if you want the feeling of mohair luxury.

The fine quality is spun into a relatively thin yarn, where we recommend a needle size 3-3½ mm. For the same reason, it is also easy to knit double on needle size 4-5 mm to achieve more volume and maintain the same lovely softness and interesting look. In reality, you don't need to do much to make your project look like a million with Birmingham. Simple stockinette or textured patterns with knit and purl stitches are enough to give a fantastic effect.
