Mayflower York is a truly delicious and extremely soft wool quality that is not superwash-treated. It is spun from 100% merino wool in an extra fine and soft quality. York is produced at a very renowned spinning mill in Italy, with which Mayflower has had a close collaboration for decades.

Læs mere
York

York has all the naturally good properties of merino wool; high breathability, is excellent at directing excess heat away from the body, while the yarn is warm and insulating. Properties that are essential for good, woolen clothing of high quality. The yarn is also wonderfully soft and fine, making it perfect for sweaters, slipovers, and naturally for soft hats, shawls, and scarves.

York is perfect for you if you want a wool yarn spun from a completely natural and pure fiber. Since York is non-superwash, the yarn is spun from the finest fibers in merino wool, which gives the yarn its truly remarkable softness.

It is very important that York is handled gently by hand washing with wool soap in lukewarm water. Also, avoid temperature fluctuations and rubbing. This will cause the wool to felt.

York is knitted/crocheted on needles/hooks 3 mm and has a really nice and fine stitch pattern in everything from stockinette to structured knitting. Since York fits needles/hooks 3 mm, the yarn also matches Patterns, which is originally made in e.g., Easy Care, London Merino Fine, and Amadora. In our universe of Patterns, you will therefore find a lot of beautiful designs to get started with – including many baby patterns. Clothes and blankets for babies also become really soft and lovely in York, but just be extra aware that it should be washed gently by hand – and pass on the information if you knit or crochet for a lucky recipient.

York is available in 30 beautiful colors and is also really nice when knitted with a companion thread, such as Premium Cassandra or Super Kid Silk. The yarn is also Oeko-Tex certified.

Note:

In superwash treatment, the scales on the wool fibers are removed, which makes the wool soft, and the wool fiber is given a coating. The wool yarn can therefore withstand machine washing without felting.

Non-superwash-treated wool yarn must be washed much more gently and always according to the instructions and never in the machine, as it will otherwise felt.

For washing all kinds of wool yarn, we always recommend wool soap (regardless of whether the yarn is superwash treated or not). Generally, it is only necessary to wash knitwear when it is dirty and needs it. Often it is enough to hang it outside for airing.

Fantastic experience.
Completely painless experience buying yarn from Mayflower. My order was sent off super quickly and I already had my package the next day. It was extremely great, as I needed it as a gift!

Good experience in the webshop and great handling of complaints. In March, I bought a lot of yarn skeins in the webshop. Super fast delivery and very nice quality yarn: Cotton Merino.

Mette

I bought a lot of yarn from the webshop after getting really good guidance over the phone. The yarn was really good. The problem was the delivery with dao, which did not live up to what was ordered. I wrote to mayflower to make them aware of it, and was called by the nicest Lady, who was happy for the feedback and compensated my wasted delivery costs. That's what I call really good customer service.
