1 Class Cashmere is produced for Mayflower at an Italian spinning mill, which is highly specialized in sock yarn. It is a wonderfully soft sock yarn in the exclusive class.

Extra fine merino is much softer than the classic wool normally used in sock yarn. Here, merino wool is combined with the even finer cashmere fiber. Mayflower 1 Class Cashmere is a wonderfully soft sock yarn of really good quality. It is composed of 65% extra fine merino wool, 25% polyamide, and a full 10% soft cashmere. The yarn weighs 50g per skein, and you should therefore calculate a consumption of about 2 skeins of yarn to be able to knit a pair of socks up to about size 46 in stockinette stitch. If you knit a pattern such as cables, you should be aware that more yarn is used than if you knit regular stockinette stitch or ribbing.

1 Class Cashmere is spun in Italy by a yarn producer with many years of experience in producing really good sock yarn. The strong focus on quality in all parts of the production makes 1 Class a recognized quality. 1 Class Cashmere is a variant of 1 Class, but here an extra fine merino wool is used as the base. A much softer and finer wool than you find in usual sock yarn, and which is also finer than the wool in our Mayflower 1 Class. The merino wool comes from South America and is therefore 100% mulesing-free.

1 Class Cashmere is added with cashmere, which gives the yarn extra gloss and makes it even more luxurious and soft. The 10% cashmere is a relatively high proportion for such an exclusive and rare fiber, as it is only available in very limited quantities annually. Cashmere is soft, curly, and finer than even the softest merino wool, which is otherwise known for its particularly soft properties. The luxurious cashmere is therefore particularly well-suited in a sock yarn, and the socks become even more comfortable to wear.

The best sock quality is achieved in the combination of wool and polyamide, which also forms the basis for the fiber composition in our 1 Class Cashmere. Wool indeed provides soft and warm socks, while polyamide helps ensure high durability, as socks need to withstand quite a bit of wear. The yarn is superwash and therefore tolerates gentle machine washing with wool detergent.

1 Class Cashmere can, in addition to sock knitting, also be used for soft clothing such as baby clothes and baby blankets. 1 Class Cashmere has the same Knitting gauge as Mayflower 1 Class, so you can knit Patterns, which was originally made for 1 Class. With 1 Class Cashmere, you get a softer and more exclusive result.
