Beautiful, graphic scarf with squares in different sizes, creating a rectangular scarf with a fascinating pattern.
The nettle scarf is made with domino knitting. A special knitting method where you knit the squares along the way by casting on a new square at the edge of an already knitted square. Along the way, you knit in the ends, so there aren't too many to finish at the end. The domino knitting technique is not so difficult once you get started, and the pattern and diagram guide you well through it. Finally, an outer edge is knitted in garter stitch.
The scarf is knitted with two different colors in the yarn Mayflower Birmingham, which is a wool blend with soft alpaca and viscose. The viscose adds speckles to the yarn, giving the colors a mottled appearance. Birmingham is very suitable for a scarf like the nettle scarf, as it becomes warm, insulating, and temperature regulating.
