Salkantay Sweater Junior Pattern

Construction:
The sweater is knitted from top to bottom. Cast on stitches for the back piece, which is knitted back and forth on the needle while making increases on each side. Then pick up stitches for the left and then the right shoulder piece, which are joined to form the front piece. The front and back pieces are joined to form the body, which is knitted in the round in stockinette stitch. The body is finished with a rib edge. Then pick up stitches for the neckband, which is knitted in the round in double rib. Finally, the sleeves are knitted. Pick up stitches along the sleeve opening and knit the sleeves in the round in stockinette stitch while making decreases on the underside.

Pattern:
The body and sleeves are knitted with a South American-inspired pattern, which can be knitted in two or more colors. The color that most of the sweater is knitted in is called the base color, and the color(s) the pattern is knitted in is called the pattern color. The appearance of the pattern depends on the size:
In sizes 9-10 years and 10-12 years, the pattern has both 'stars' and 'diamonds'.
In sizes 6-7 years, 7-8 years, 8-9 years, and 12-14 years, the pattern consists only of 'stars', so the pattern fits around the entire round.

Size Guide:
The sweater can be knitted in 6 different sizes: 6-7 (7-8) 8-9 (9-10) 10-12 (12-14) years with a circumference of the sweater of 82 (82) 82 (91) 91 (100) cm. We recommend a positive ease of 15-20 cm in relation to the child's chest/waist circumference. The length of the body and sleeves can be adjusted to fit the child's height.

Length:
43.5 (44) 45 (47) 48 (49) cm on the back including rib.

Knitting gauge:                      
22 sts x 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm in stockinette stitch.

Recommended needles:
3.5 and 4 mm Circular Needle.

Mayflower Easy Care together with Mayflower Cassandra or Mayflower Super Kid Silk.

Yarn amount:
