Mayflower Alliance is a fine, lustrous and really soft cotton blend. It is spun on Turkish cotton with long fibers, which makes for a very durable yarn.

The good blend of fibers means the yarn is soft and stays soft - wash after wash. The yarn also doesn't dull in the same way that pure cotton tends to after a few washes in the washing machine.

Alliance has an amazing lightness, which means it feels incredibly comfortable against the skin. The yarn can also be a great alternative if you are allergic to lanolin in wool or mohair, as the yarn does not contain animal fibers.

The soft 'alliance' between airy acrylic fibers and breathable natural cotton makes it a great yarn for soft clothing for both children and adults or for blankets that need a little weight - without being too thick.

We recommend a 4 mm needle and the gauge of Alliance matches our Easy Care Classic. This means that you will be able to knit most of our designs created for Easy Care Classic in Alliance instead. If you don't want to use wool, this gives you many great design options. This is also true if you just want to make a summery version of your favorite sweater in a lighter, cooler yarn.

Perhaps you remember the classic Mayflower Cotton 2 yarn, which is a discontinued quality. It had the same fiber composition, but Alliance is a much better quality. There are plenty of older Mayflower-patterns that were made for Mayflower Cotton 2. Here you can easily replace it with Alliance. Just remember to always start with a crochet or knitting swatch to make sure you hit the gauge specified in the pattern.

Alliance is also available in a thinner version for size 3 needles, Alliance Fine, which has the same great color selection.
