The Mayflower size guide is based on chest width measured directly on the body.
When an over-width is given in Mayflower patterns, this number is adjusted to the fit that the designer intended the design to have. The stated bust width also includes the range of motion.

Long vest with braided pattern
The classic aran pattern has a beautiful texture and is exciting to knit. In this design, it is used in a long vest with wide ribbed edges and buttons. The knitted belt is a nice detail and the cables add a nice shape and fit.
The vest is warm, and with the roomy armholes, it can be worn over a thin jacket, for example, instead of a poncho in the transition between seasons.
The vest is knitted on 7 mm needles and is therefore a manageable project if this is your first attempt with cables.
