Merino wool

(23 products)

Merino wool yarn is one of the most sought-after yarn qualities, mainly due to the unique softness that can only be experienced with merino yarn.

You might be asking yourself: "What exactly is merino wool?" and the answer is actually simple. Merino wool comes from the Merino sheep, which was originally bred in Spain. Today, however, the breed is found all over the world due to its high demand. Merino yarn is characterized by being extra soft and having very fine fibers. A subcategory of merino yarn is called 'extra fine merino wool'. With this type of merino wool, extra high demands are placed on the fineness of the fibers, which makes this type of merino yarn extra soft.

Merino wool has very fine and curly fibers, which creates insulating air pockets. Therefore, merino yarn is comfortable to wear and can be used all year round as the wool is temperature-regulating, although thick merino wool yarn should probably be reserved for winter use.

In this category you will of course find several yarn qualities in pure merino wool, but there are also a number of different blended qualities where the merino wool is supplemented with other fibers.

By combining merino wool with other fibers, it is possible to highlight the best properties from several different fiber types. In principle, there are endless possibilities for creating combinations, because merino wool is a versatile fiber with very few restrictions.

The most classic supplement to merino wool is cotton, so you get a cotton and merino yarn where soft wool is combined with high quality cotton. Merino wool is also often combined with polyamide to create a combination of softness, warmth and comfort from the wool, which is combined with the wear resistance from polyamide.

If you are curious, you can explore our selection of merino yarns yourself. Of course, we have written about each yarn quality, so you can get your questions about specific fiber combinations answered - and otherwise you can of course also settle for one of our yarn qualities, which consists of pure merino wool.
